Keeping a dressing table in the bedroom can attract negativity, as per Vaastu Shastra beliefs. If a mirror is anywhere near the bed, it should be removed immediately, say Vaastu experts
As the festival of Diwali approaches, markets have started to come alive with people looking to buy new furniture and décor to do up their homes. For Vaastu enthusiasts, it’s not just about the aesthetics of home décor but the placement of the new items as well, especially furniture with mirrors like a dressing table.
Should you be placing your new dressing table in your bedroom?
According to Vaastu Shastra, each item placed within a home influences the lives of its residents. Consequently, specific directions and rules govern the placement of a dressing table, and ignoring these rules is believed to lead to unhappiness and discord in marriage.
So, what is the correct placement for a dressing table in a home? Unnao-based astrologer Rishikant Mishra explains how and where to position a dressing table in your home.
“The dressing table can change your luck if the direction and location are right. At the same time, ignoring the rules or keeping it in the wrong direction can cause loss and increase disputes between husband and wife. It can also create financial crisis. Therefore, it is important that if you bring a dressing table into the house, you take special care of the direction and location.”
‘Avoid keeping it in the bedroom’
Keeping a dressing table in the bedroom can attract negativity, as per Vaastu Shastra beliefs. If a mirror is anywhere near the bed, it should be removed immediately, say Vaastu experts. They also advise against placing a mirror in front of the bed.
Vaastu practitioners say mirrors should not be placed facing the bedroom door. The only exception is if the door is in the northeast direction. Experts say the reflection of the person sleeping on the bed should not fall on the mirror. If, for any reason, the reflection falls on the mirror, while sleeping, cover it with a light curtain.
Vaastu believers also say the dressing table should never be positioned in front of a window or door in the bedroom, as the reflected light from outside can spread negativity in the room.
“A type of energy always emanates from the mirror. Whether this energy is good or bad depends on the place where it is placed… It is always auspicious to place the dressing table in the north or east direction of the room. Ensure that the mirror is not excessively large. Any mirror shape except round is permissible in the bedroom. Remove any sharp or broken mirrors from the bedroom immediately,” says Rishikant Mishra.
