Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF)
Purpose
Student Action with Farmworkers is seeking applications
from organizations in the Carolinas to host college
student interns. Students will be trained on issues that
farmworkers face and placed to work full-time with
migrant education programs, legal aid offices, rural
health clinics, community-based organizations, and
farmworker unions.
Expectations of sponsor organizations:
- Meet with intern(s) prior to the internship via phone
call or video chat - Attend monthly sponsor meetings
- Coordinate with staff for a site visit
- Create a workplan with intern(s)
- Set-up weekly check-in with intern(s)
- Review project publications
- Support student projects
- Maintain a professional relationship with intern(s)
- Complete exit interview process per intern during the
last week of work - Complete end of summer surveys
- Attend the End of Summer Celebration
Students will be required to complete a documentary or
theater project. Sponsors are not responsible for
executing these projects, but should allow students time
to work on them during the internship.
Eligibility
Eligibility requirements:
- Align with
SAF mission and vision - Able to contribute towards intern cost (Contact
program staff if this is a limitation.) - Be able to have a supervisor interact with an intern
on a regular basis - Organizational work conducted in North Carolina or
South Carolina (virtual placement permitted) - Be able to provide 8-9 weeks of full time work

Amount of funding
SAF utilizes a sliding scale fee per intern based on the
size of the organization’s farmworker outreach budget or
applicable program budget. Sponsors can apply for 1-2
interns.
