Purpose
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Health Policy
Fellows program provides a fellowship opportunity for
mid-career health professionals and behavioral and social
scientists with an interest in health and healthcare
policy. Individuals with diverse and unique perspectives
are strongly encouraged to apply, and the foundation has
an interest in rural.
Fellows will participate in the policy process at the
federal level and will use that leadership experience to
improve health, healthcare, and health policy. The
experience is designed to prepare individuals with the
skills needed to influence the future of public health
and healthcare policy, as well as provide a way to
advance their own career development.
The fellowship requires, at a minimum, a 12-month
residential experience in Washington, D.C., with
additional support for health policy leadership
development activities.
Eligibility
Exceptional midcareer professionals from academic
faculties, government, and nonprofit healthcare
organizations are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be
U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of
application.
Applicants must have earned an advanced degree and have deep experience and subject matter expertise in a health-related disciplines including but not limited to:
- Medicine
- Nursing
- Public health
- Dentistry
- Economics or other social sciences
- Health services, social work, and behavioral health
- Health law

Amount of funding
$175,000 stipend per fellow over a period of 12–24 months
for up to 8 fellows
Fellows will be directly reimbursed for relocation and
approved housing expenses.
Application process
The application process includes the preliminary
application phase and an invitation-only full application
phase. The preliminary application phase includes 2
deadlines. Submit 3 reference letters by November 3,
2024. The remaining pieces of the preliminary application
package must be submitted by November 5, 2024.
