Purpose
The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas
provides funding for the delivery of evidence-based
clinical services to screen for cancer and precancer in
underserved populations who do not have adequate access
to screening, early detection interventions, and
healthcare. Rural and/or medically underserved
populations are a program priority.
Program objectives include:
- Deliver comprehensive projects that include public
and/or professional education, outreach, delivery of
clinical services, follow-up navigation to diagnosis and
cancer treatment, and system and/or policy improvements - Offer effective and efficient systems of delivery of
screening services based on the existing body of
knowledge about and evidence - Implement policy changes and/or system improvements
that are sustainable over time and treatment - Provide tailored, culturally appropriate outreach and
accurate information on early detection and prevention to
the public and healthcare professionals that results in a
health impact that can be measured
Eligibility
Eligible applicants are Texas-based entities, such as:
- Community-based organizations
- Health institutions
- Government organizations
- Public and private companies
- Colleges and universities
- Academic health institutions

Amount of funding
The amount of total funding that applicants may request
is dependent on the primary focus of the project and on
the type of project:
- New project: $1,500,000 for a 3 year project period
- Initial expansion: $2,000,000 for a 3 year project
period - Maintenance expansion: $2,500,000 for a 5 year
project period
